What happens in New Jersey could play a big role in the legislative outlook for the rest of the country. New Jersey is a small market for internet betting, but it is important because it serves as a model (or more accurately, an experiment) for regulated online gambling in the United States. New Jersey is a Model for Regulated Online Gambling This is definitely a much-improved process for any problem gamblers in the state. Now, people can apply online without visiting a gambling website. Previously, people who wanted to exclude themselves from online betting in New Jersey had to visit a NJDGE office, go to a racetrack in person or sign up for an account at one of New Jersey’s licensed casino sites to join the list. Once the request is processed, NJ betting sites will no longer allow those players to sign up or play. People will be asked to answer a series of questions to verify their identities and then asked to choose a length of time for NJ online gambling self-exclusion. The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) announced earlier today that individuals can visit this page on the NJDGE website to ban themselves from all of New Jersey’s online gambling sites for a period of 1 to 5 years. This was the first state to allow players to sign up and play real money games at licensed gaming sites, and now it is the first state to implement a voluntary, online self-exclusion program. New Jersey continues to pave the way for regulated online gambling in the United States.
